When funk music exploded onto the global pop scene in the late sixties, many of Jamaicas leading music-makers were inspired to incorporate elements of the exciting sound into their work. The result was the fascinating and compelling funky reggae style that proved immensely popular with record buyers on both sides of the Atlantic throughout the early 70s.
Collected here are some of the finest examples of the funky reggae, performed by some of reggae musics most accomplished artists, from Ken Boothe and Lee Perrys Upsetters to British-based acts, Greyhound and The Marvels.
