Description
Hudson is the first album from a jazz supergroup collective comprised of four of the worlds top instrumentalists: Jack DeJohnette (drums), Larry Grenadier (bass), John Medeski (keyboardist of Medeski Martin & Wood) and John Scofield (guitar).
In addition to original compositions, Hudson features covers of songs connected to the Hudson Valley by such songwriters as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Robbie Robertson and Joni Mitchell. The music will have broad appeal beyond mainstream jazz confines.
The project came together organically as a way to celebrate music legend Jack DeJohnettes 75th birthday. DeJohnette, an NEA Jazz Master and Grammy winner, is known for his work with Miles Davis among many others across all genres of music.
One of the core elements of this project is the groups namesake: New Yorks Hudson River Valley. All four musicians live there and its also where the project was conceived of and recorded. The Hudson River Valley serves as a major source of inspiration for all the group members, with their shared love for the areas spectacular beauty and their growing sense of concern over environmental issues facing the area.
