Description
For over two decades, Matt Johnson has been an integral force behind the globally renowned Jamiroquai, serving as the bands keyboardist and co-writer on most of their material. In addition to his role as a musician, Matt co-produced many of Jamiroquais albums, including the 2017 Automaton, which was praised for its futuristic sound and fresh take on the bands funk-laden roots. Beyond Jamiroquai, Matt has left his mark across a wide spectrum of the music world. As a highly sought-after songwriter and performer, he has collaborated with an impressive array of artists, including Dizzee Rascal, Duffy, Ashanti, Lizzo, Purple Disco Machine, Nolwenn Leroy, Lucky Daye and Julian Perretta. Matt is now embarking on an exciting new chapter with the release of his second solo album, Warrior Princess. Drawing inspiration from Greta Thunbergs courageous transatlantic voyage, the album serves as a deeply personal reflection on resilience and perseverance in the face of lifes challenges. The album channels the energy of 1970s funk while incorporating elements of cosmic jazz, creating a soundscape that is both introspective and uplifting. Featuring an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including jazz fusion legend Jeff Lorber, funk guitarist Cory Wong and esteemed bassist Will Lee, Warrior Princess promises to be a vibrant and soulful journey. The initial inspiration for Warrior Princess was Greta Thunbergs journey across the Atlantic in a small boat. The albums material reflects on the stormy seas of life whilst hopefully being ultimately uplifting. Musically it draws on the influences of 70s funk blended with Cosmic Jazz. – Matt Johnson.
