Description
Over two decades into their partnership, Hammock continue to refine their expansive ambient language on The Second Coming Was A Moonrise. The title draws from a formative moment in Mark Byrds youth, when a moonrise, seen through a psychedelic haze, took on spiritual significance. Built largely from guitars, treated textures and minimal vocals, the record leans into both restraint and scale. Wordless voices and instrumental passages unfold with care, creating a sense of closeness that gradually opens into something more vast. Chemicals Make You Small features contributions from Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips, adding vocals and keyboards. Familiar collaborators also return, including Matt Kidd (Slow Meadow), Matthew Doty (Deserta), Christine Byrd (Lumenette), Chad Howat and Jake Finch. The result is a quietly absorbing set that balances introspection with the duos enduring sense of wonder.
