Not having to concern himself with the needs of a drummer or a bassist, John Lee Hooker is especially introspective and doesnt hesitate to let loose and improvise on such familiar tunes as Boogie Chillen, Boom Boom and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.
Originally released in 1995, Alone: Volume 2 is the second set of Hookers 1970s solo concert at New York Citys Hunter College a brooding lesson in the Three Ds of the blues despair, death and desire.
Hooker enjoys improvisation as much as a jazz musician and on these magnificent recordings he is at his most uninhibited taking one liberty after another.
