These early home recordings show that the young Gram was heavily influenced by the likes of Fred Neil and Tim Hardin. However, these recordings are rather enjoyable as well as a fascinating insight into the roots of this hugely influential artist.
On these recordings it is just Gram’s voice with his own guitar accompaniment. The vocal style is very different to his later, more country, recordings but no less enjoyable for it. The young Gram heard here had a very pleasing voice. Some of the guitar playing is a little rudimentary in places but his youthful enthusiasm more than compensates.
