Description
The Endless River is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by British rock band Pink Floyd, set to be released on 10 November 2014. Produced by David Gilmour, Martin Glover, Andy Jackson and Phil Manzanera, this is the bands first studio album in twenty years, the last being 1994s The Division Bell. It is also the bands first album after the death of the bands keyboardist and founding member Richard Wright, who makes a posthumous appearance on it, and the third by the Gilmour-helmed Pink Floyd after Roger Waters departure from the band in 1985, following the release of The Final Cut.
Described as a swan song for Wright, The Endless River is mostly an instrumental album consisting primarily of ambient music. The album is based on unreleased material the band produced with Wright during sessions for The Division Bell in 1994, and was originally recorded under the tentative title The Big Spliff.
In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.
