Contemporaries of The Wailers, featuring Bob Marley, Toots And The Maytals formed in early 60s Jamaica when Frederick Toots Hibbert met Ralphus Raleigh Gordon and Nathaniel Jerry Pen. Best known for their close harmony gospel vocals, the reggae act first came to wider prominence when they were included on the soundtrack to Jimmy Cliffs 1972 movie, The Harder They Come. Released in 1973, Funky Kingston was their first album to be produced by Island Records Chris Blackwell, and among Hibberts original compositions, the album also includes a cover of the Richard Berry classic Louie, Louie as well as Ike Turners I Cant Believe.
