Description
Having developed his skills amongst the cream of New Yorks hard bop players (jamming with John Coltrane and Jackie McLean), Eddie Gale helped ring in jazzs controversial new thing during the 60s and 70s on a series of influential releases. His inspired trumpet playing graced Cecil Taylors Unit Structures, Larry Youngs Of Peace And Love and a series of recordings and performances with Sun Ras Arkestra. Gales Blue Note debut album was released in 1968, produced by Blue Note founder Francis Wolff. Its a blend of funky grooves, a gospel street choir and late 60s free form freak-outs. Recommended for fans of Sun Ra & Brother Ah, Coltranes Love Supreme, and Max Roachs Its Time.
