Description
Depth of Field represents another extraordinary chapter in the career of an artist whose six-album run of genre defining art-pop is unparalleled. The album is the follow-up to Blaskos ARIA Award winning, AMP shortlisted Eternal Return.
It may come as a surprise that Depth of Field is the first in Blaskos storied career recorded entirely within the boundaries of her home-town of Sydney. Indeed, much of Depth of Field was written and recorded during a two-week period as artist in residence at the Campbelltown Arts Centre. The purpose of those Western Sydney sessions was to manufacture a vibe which mimicked live performance; to explore the influence of space in the song-writing process. On a stage, under bright lights and in a room with resonance and atmosphere, Blasko and her band captured performances of warmth, sensitivity and power.
The albums opening song and first single is the euphoric Phantom, a track which explores new sonic territories for Blasko. Ominous synth and piano are paired with the unbeatable groove of rhythm section Donny Benet and Laurence Pike before Blaskos voice and the intensity of frequent collaborator Nick Wales orchestrations send the music soaring.
