Originally released in May 2005, Audioslave’s sophomore effort, Out of Exile remains a towering achievement in 21st-century rock. While their debut proved the “supergroup” pairing of Chris Cornell and the instrumental powerhouse of Rage Against the Machine could work, Out of Exile was the moment they truly became a band. Today, it is revered as the definitive document of their creative synergy.

Produced by Rick Rubin, the album saw the quartet – Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk – stepping out from the shadows of Soundgarden and Rage to forge a singular identity. It is a record characterized by its balance of hard rock and a newfound, soul-searching melodicism. Cornell’s lyrics, written during a time of immense clarity and joy following the birth of his children and his own sobriety, are among the most hopeful and intimate of his storied career.
