Before / During uni Lil worked behind the counter in Diverse for Matt and easily had as good a musical / record knowledge as any of the others in the shop, I bought the Royal Headache lp straight after shed played it in the shop, fairly certain Id never done that with a record Matt recommended
More infamously, she seemed to somehow be in a team which won the annual Green Man pop quiz (set by Pete Paphides and Bob Stanley no less) on more than one occasion, and so when news broke shed joined a band, Matt and I were instantly inquisitive.
Further details emerged to show Kristy was in on the plan and wed known her via Le Pub / Sam Dabb / previous bands and this all quickly began to seem potentially an option for us.
They got booked for Wales goes Pop 2022, for the first time ever Dan and Laura, Jarrett and I were all in the Gate to quickly decide adding Murder Club to the Popty Ping madness would be aceIts taken a while to sort. We convinced Ellie and Elisha we were worth a punt and it seemed they were up for it also.
They set off to get some gigs under their belt, somehow David Gedge heard them and took them on tour with the Wedding Present for the Seamonsters 30th anniversary shows. From that everything stepped up a gear, festival slots emerged, some great features on the BBC / Radio arose and a bloody huge three track digital ep emerged from our friends at Venn Records (Shots is a massive banger). That went down really really well and so wellnow here we are.
Both songs capture life challenges in the 21st century. Recorded by Richard Jackson (60ft Dolls, The Automatic, Mclusky) theyve been crafted into huge sing along classics with a giant pop lilt. They reminded us of the sing along nature of Voice of the Beehive, many reviews have made reference to Jane Wiedlin / The Go-Gos but with the punk edge of Bikini Kill. There is no one lead singer which makes them even more special. We dare you not to want to hit repeat and sing along.
As per our recent releases, both tracks are mastered for Vinyl by the wonderful Charlie Francis (REM, Manic St Preachers, Mclusky, Robyn Hitchock etc). Its a 500 only pressing, this time on light Pink vinyl.
This is the 8th release in the Nine Modern Poets series of 7 records. There will be one more after this to complete the series.
