Deep Purple are one of the few bands in rock history whose legacy continues to grow with every new chapter. Yet Deep Purple are far more than a legendary name. Musically, Splat! is one of the hardest and heaviest Deep Purple albums in many years – recorded in true hard rock tradition, with the band playing together in the studio.
At the center of the record is a conceptual idea from Ian Gillan: Splat! deals with the end of humanity, or perhaps Deep Purple, not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence.
