Coming three years after The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, it marked a deliberate step away from the polished production of her debut, offering instead an unfiltered document of where she was spiritually and creatively at the time.
The performances are loose and confessional, the between-song monologues as revealing as the music itself. A record that rewards patience and rewards repeated listening.
